Coaching Managers to Manage Themselves FIRST!

In his book ?First Things First,? Steven Covey wrote ?Where there?s no Gardener, there?s no Garden.?

The Garden can be a place of great energy and great solace, a place to work and to reflect.?In the garden we can plough, sow, tend, nurture and ultimately harvest.?

However the Garden will not flourish if the Gardener is ineffective in managing themselves and the Garden. In an organisation a Manager cannot expect to manage the work and results of other people successfully if they cannot manage themselves first.

In my coaching conversations with Leaders and Managers I encourage them to create and work in their own garden.

Self management should be the Manager?s Number One priority.

As an Executive Coach, I am often asked by the Manager ?Coachee? for coaching to be better in planning, managing and organising themselves, improving work/life balance, delegation, giving effective feedback and strategies for stress management.?

Managers discuss their feelings such as struggling, being overwhelmed, not able to delegate enough, guilt about hours spent at work, challenged by staffing problems and so on.

Some Managers are so focused on their own battles and survival that they have less energy to give of themselves in leading, managing and developing others.??

What are the Essentials for Coaching a Manager in Self Management?

1.?The Coaching process must be a conversation with Coachee objectives and actions. Coaching objectives specifically in the area of self management are essential. The Coaching process needs to demonstrate and replicate ?self management? itself with goals and actions, positive focus and motivation, discipline, reflection and reward and celebration.

2.?The use of assessment and survey tools can be very effective for creating self awareness of personal style. Throughout their lives and careers, many Managers do not understand how other people perceive them. A diagnostic or assessment instrument can be a great starting point to increase self awareness around style and behaviours. The ethical and responsible use of all diagnostic and assessment tools, especially in debriefing, is a key competence for a Coach.

3.?It is important for a Manager to understand how his capability for self management impacts either positively or negatively on his abilities to manage his role, function and build relationships. We focus on self management in relationship to management functions such as Leadership, Planning, Organising, Coaching and giving feedback, Getting Results and Building Relationships with Stakeholders.?

4.?Coaching provides a space for Managers to slow their pulse and reflect especially on their own thoughts, actions and behaviours.?Powerful and focused questions from the Coach can facilitate the Manager reflecting on specific events and their actions from different perspectives. The space for reflection and talking through issues can also help the Manager to be more creative with options and solutions.

5.?Coaching facilitates the Manager identifying self management strengths, obstacles and challenges and options for risk and experimentation. Strengths emphasised can be affirmed by the Coach. The outcomes of risk taking and experimentation can be shared for review, problem solving, affirming and celebrating with their Coach.

6.?A Coaching conversation should always come to a close with clear actions. When a Manager has some objectives about managing themselves better outcomes can be realised however it appears that sustainable change occurs when the Manager views their own process more as a marathon rather than a sprint.??

7.?Each Coaching conversation is a building block for the next. As a Manager owns his issues, experiments and takes action the Coach is ready to provide support, affirmation and positive reinforcement of efforts made and changes that proved successful.?The Managers? levels of confidence increase.?In addition seeking feedback from others such as Managers, peers and staff supplements the recognition and support from the Coach. This augurs for more sustainable change in the identified areas for improvement, development and growth of the Manager.

8.?In Coaching we ask the Manager to become the successful Gardener working in their own Garden first. In this Garden the Gardener speaks to him or herself in positive ways, says ? well that was dumb? when forgetting to fertilise in Spring, uses words of encouragement to keep going when digging a soil that is dry and rock hard and to have optimism to sow and nurture again after a storm has destroyed all the crops. And finally the Gardener can reflect upon and celebrate the bumper harvest that feeds himself and others in his life.

Online Marketing Tools To Make Maximum Money | Cop 15 Post

Online marketing can help business owners take their business to new heights of success. There are numerous ways for you to market and expand your business. In fact, many of the ways are inexpensive, sometimes even free, and yet still very effective. This article can help you to enter the world of Internet marketing, and build your business to levels that you have only dreamed of.

TIP! Try to make a subtle, non-flashy website. You only have a few seconds to engage your potential customer and give them a reason to stay on your site.

Try your hand at mobile marketing. You can send out text alerts to your visitors when you have sales going or when you need to announce a new product. This is a very modern way to improve your marketing online.

Incorporate new social medial avenues like Twitter and Facebook into all new online marketing efforts. Since they provide a quick and simple way to send promotions or updated site information, social media sites are an effective way to stay in touch with potential customers. Keep in mind, on the other hand, that it does not pay to bombard your customer with comments. Try to give valuable and helpful postings with an occasional marketing message appearing here and there.

TIP! Offering customers a discount after they spend some amount of money can help attract more business. Consider offering a discount to customers who spend more than a set amount of money; you decide what that amount of money will be.

Your company needs to have a simple, memorable web address. The best name to use for your website would be your business or brand?s name. This may seem obvious, but sometimes people try to be too creative when coming up with a name. While customers can Google you, make it simpler by having an address they can easily remember and type into their search bars.

When trying to succeed with internet promotion, you should ensure you do not steal another business?s idea. It is easy to discover duplicate content, so save yourself trouble by creating your own work. Always strive for uniqueness.

TIP! Many people won?t believe ad copy. The fact is that most folks aren?t buying the stuff they read in advertisements, so don?t turn them off by simply talking big.

Learn how to use email marketing on your own. You should be able to master the necessary tools in no time. Plus, whatever added knowledge you gain always comes in handy at a later date.

TIP! You should give your customer an option of either buying in bulk or retail. You can make a small profit selling wholesale items, but the main benefit is that you can draw visitors to your site to purchase other, more expensive products.

Press releases can really draw more visitors to your web site. Once you learn to write good press releases, you can find a number of places to have them published online. This is a very simple way to increase your profile.

As you may already know, people usually hold a lot of respect for those in authority. Let people know you are the top dog. You can refer to yourself as the ?President? or ?CEO? of your company.

TIP! To gain potential customers, think of having a $1 promotional sale for new clients. You will receive extra visitors, and get your product name more widely exposed.

Interview legitimate authority figures in your niche. To avoid legal issues down the road, ensure you get the proper rights before publishing anything. You could write articles based on your interviews and post them on article directories. This is a great way to generate more traffic to your site.

As has been revealed earlier, web marketing is an amazing way to reach out to customers and to bring attention to your business and products. The opportunities are endless and the benefits are immense. By utilizing the information in the article, you can build your customer base and bring new recognition to your company.

Asian children get head start on golf careers

Under sweltering heat, Butsakom Moonfong gripped her golf club firmly and practiced her swing before focusing on the ball. Adjusting her position, the 10-year-old hit the ball close to the hole, getting a thumbs-up from her father - who is also her caddie.

Butsakom emerged champion in her age group in the Kids Golf World Championship in Malaysia on Dec. 4-6, much to the delight of her father. She has been playing competitive golf since she was five years old, and by six she had her eyes set on the world stage.

"I want to be a world professional player. I want to make lots of money," the softly spoken Thai girl said during a lunch break earlier this week, escorted by her doting parents.

Golf is no longer just an adult's game in Asia. It is fast becoming child's play as many parents nurture their kids from increasingly young ages, giving them a head start on a path to a professional career.

Asia's rising status in the sport, and the inclusion of golf in the 2016 Olympics have sparked interest in the region.

Asian women are particularly dominant, sweeping all four major championships this year for the first time in LPGA history. That makes it nine Asian triumphs in the past 12 majors, while the world rankings, headed by Taiwanese star Yani Tseng, are dominated by Koreans and Japanese. Sixty of the world's top 100 women golfers are from Asia.

That may soon be mirrored in the men's game, too. Recently, Chinese schoolboy Guan Tianlang created golfing history by qualifying for the US Masters in April at the age of just 14. Tianlang, from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, started playing at age four and won the world junior title by 11 shots last year in San Diego.

The Kids Golf World Championship, held for the first time in Asia, attracted 402 participants aged between six and 18. It is an offshoot of the U.S. Kids Golf Foundation, the largest and among the most prestigious event in the world for junior golfers. It also tabulates points toward the world amateur ranking.

Among those competing was six-year-old Filipino Lucas Hodreal, who is a big fan of Woods and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy. Hodreal was among the youngest participants in the Malaysian championship. He was only two years old when his father put a golf club in his hand.

"I like golf because I get soft drinks and get to play iPod in the car," said the pint-sized boy, who was disappointed with his game in Malaysia because he didn't land any double eagles.

In the Philippines, junior golf tournaments are held almost weekly, providing an avenue for young golfers to brush up on their skills. In Singapore, some schools have begun to offer golf as part of the curriculum. In Malaysia, top bank Maybank recently set up a junior golf academy to nurture young talent for the Olympics and to try and dispel the notion that golf is an elitist game.

Golf is also slowly being embraced in Myanmar, as it emerges from military rule toward more democracy.

Yin May Tho, 17, came from a non-golfing family and fell in love with the game at age 11. She has participated in 45 tournaments since then and aims to make golf a career. She won in her age group in the Kids Golf World Championship.

"This is a gentleman's game and I can manage it myself. It's a mental game," she said, citing Yani Tseng and South Korea's Na Yeon Choi as her idols. She said she hopes to enter a golf academy in Australia next year to better her game.

She was among an entourage of a dozen Myanmar teenagers competing in the Malaysian championship.

Her coach Chan Han said interest has bloomed in recent years with 70-80 budding junior golfers in Myanmar under the country's golf association. As Myanmar opens its doors further to the world, Chan said he hopes there will be more incentives and further investments to build world standard golf courses to make the sport more accessible.

"In Asia, many people see golf as an elitist game but the rise of Asian stars in the game is slowly changing that perception. Green fees are still cheap in Myanmar and there are many talents here in Asia," Chan said.

For Thailand's Butsakom, her parents are pushing her and doing all they can for their only child to support her dream.

They live in Mae Hong Son, a hilly province in northern Thailand where her father owns a driving range. Every month, they take a five-hour drive to the nearest golf course in Chiang Mai so that Moonfong can practice her game. Her future goal is clear: become a professional at age 16.

Her mother, a nurse, said they plan to uproot the family to Chiang Mai in the next two years so that Butsakom can practice her game daily.

Will she be the next Asian rising star?

"Yes, I think so," her mother said, with a laugh.

TRT Turk Selects SES To Reach Audiences In Sub-Saharan Africa

SES has announced that Turkish public broadcaster, Turkiye Radyo ve Televizyon Kurumu (TRT), has selected SES to reach audiences in sub-Saharan Africa.

TRT will use capacity on SES-5 located at 5 degrees East to broadcast its free-to-air digital channel TRT Turk and its radio channel Turkiyenin Sesi Radyosu (TRS) to the region using the satellite's unique Ka-band uplink capabilities, allowing for flexible operations between Europe and Africa.

With a line-up of almost 500 TV channels and access to nearly 25 million homes across Europe and Africa, SES' 5 degrees East orbital position provides growth opportunities for broadcasters and offers a wider choice of TV programmes for viewers.

SES-5 was launched in July 2012 and complements SES' successful ASTRA 4A satellite at this orbital position providing additional and extended coverage over South Africa, North Africa, Europe and the Atlantic Ocean.

Norbert Holzle, Senior Vice President Commercial Europe of SES, said: "We are happy to extend our partnership with TRT Turk and look forward to broadcasting the Turkish channel to new audiences in sub-Saharan Africa where demand for digital TV content is constantly growing. Satellite is the most ideal form of infrastructure to broadcast TV content to a wide audience across large geographical regions."

Ibrahim Sahin, General Manager of TRT, said: "We rely on SES' expertise and global satellite fleet to reach important audiences and markets outside of Turkey. We already rely on SES' prime orbital position 19.2 degrees East to reach our audiences in Western Europe.

The use of SES-5 will give us immediate access to sub-Saharan Africa and provide our target audience with premium news, culture and entertainment programs made in Turkey."

TRT Turk and TSR can be received via 5 degrees East at 12034 H DVB-S 27500 FEC 3/4.

Khaaan? Maybe! 'Star Trek 2' teaser won't say

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News

Warning: Possible spoilers for "Star Trek Into Darkness" follow.?

"Star Trek" fans are known for their devotion -- to the series, to its characters, to remembering past episodes. So even though the new teaser for "Star Trek Into Darkness," the second movie in the rebooted series, doesn't reveal a great deal, fans are already building theories.

The one-minute teaser provides plenty of action, but merely hints at the biggest question: Which villain is star Benedict Cumberbatch playing?

There are two big rumors -- and the tricky new teaser would seem to support both of them.

Some believe the villain will be Gary Mitchell, who appeared in the original series episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before," playing Captain Kirk's good friend and one-time Starfleet Academy student. Mitchell gains almost godlike powers (and creepy silver eyes, represented by painful contact lenses) and ends up in a deadly battle with Kirk.

Actor Karl Urban, who plays Dr. McCoy, dropped an earlier hint mentioning Mitchell by name, and in the new teaser, Cumberbatch is wearing a Starfleet uniform, as Mitchell would.

Others say the villain is unlikely to be Mitchell, for various reasons. Devin Faraci of Badass Digest thinks Mitchell won't be the villain because the "Star Trek" comic book series has already written the Mitchell plotline, and Faraci believes the character was given to the comics after being discarded as a movie villain.

Jokes Badass Digest reader Andrew Crump, "I really hope the villain isn't Gary Mitchell, because Gary Mitchell is not the name of a villain. It's the name of an insurance salesman from Topeka, Kansas."

The other big villain's name that keeps circulating is of course, Khan Nooonien Singh, the character so memorably played by Ricardo Montalban in both the 1967 television episode "Space Seed" and the 1982 film, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

Khan's a fan favorite, for the details of his story (a wormlike Ceti eel in Chekov's brain!), Montalban's portrayal (that accent!), and William Shatner's tortured "KHAAAAAAAAAN!" wail as Kirk, certainly one of the most parodied line deliveries ever.

Now before you go practicing that line, know that Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the movie series, has said of the villain, "It's not Khan."

But could he be faking us out? In the teaser trailer, Cumberbatch says, "For I have returned to have my vengeance," which to many viewers means "vengeance on Kirk for exiling me," as was done to Khan.

And another clue was sniffed out by those who cared enough to go to the Apple trailers site and watch the Japanese version of this teaser. At the very end, there's a scene not shown in the U.S. trailer, where two hands, one split in the famed Vulcan "live long and prosper" salute, touch on opposite sides of glass.

Japanese version, with extra scene at end

To fans, that scene is a direct homage to the scene in "Wrath of Khan" where Spock sacrifices himself for the crew. So they're saying it's Khan then?

Fans may not have to wait too long for answers. Although "Star Trek Into Darkness" doesn't open till May 17, viewers going to IMAX showings of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," which opens Dec. 14, will get to see the first nine minutes of the movie before returning to Middle-Earth.

Do you think Khan, Mitchell, or another villain will take center stage in the upcoming "Star Trek" sequel? Tell us on Facebook.

Syrian army reinforcements on edge of contested Damascus suburbs

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The Syrian army fired rockets into and reinforced its positions around two Damascus suburbs on Friday, resident opposition activists said, as it battles to isolate the centre of the capital from recent rebel offensives.

Opposition activists said forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad had sent troops backed up by tanks to Moadamiah and Daraya, suburbs to the south west of the city that are close to a large military airport.

If rebels can hold those two districts they will have a continuous arc of control from the northeast to southwest of the capital, cornering Damascus against the Qasioun mountain range.

"Fifteen tanks arrived at the edge of Moadamiah this morning after and a night of very heavy artillery shelling and rocket fire into the suburbs," said an activist who asked not to be named. "They are trying to storm the area," he added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition-linked monitor, said that troops were massing on the outskirts of the areas in preparation for an advance.

Reuters could not independently confirm the reports due to severe government restrictions on media access.

Assad has been struggling to put down the 20-month-old revolt against his rule, which began as peaceful protests but has turned into a civil war that has spread to most of the country. Opposition supporters say 40,000 people have died.

Rebels have made advances of the outskirts of the capital and taken several military bases around the country in recent weeks but Assad's superior military power has leveled opposition-held areas with aerial and artillery strikes.
