Self Improvement | Building Self Esteem: 7 Steps To Unlocking The ...

By Sal R Ingoglia -

There are certain keys to success that can help you achieve results faster than ever. Ignore them at your peril.

They work and they can really make a difference in your life if they are applied.

Here are some of the most important keys to success:

#1: Believe in your self.

Know that you are enough. Keep telling yourself you are capable of achieving your goals. Watch your thoughts and see how you feel about yourself. If you notice thoughts about yourself that you aren?t good enough to achieve your goals change them, start building self esteem by repeating to yourself statements like I am powerful, I am successful and I am empowering. If you don?t believe in yourself why should anyone else. Also your results aren?t going to be good enough. So make sure you believe in yourself and you are enough.

#2: Have clearly defined goals.

Most people do not really know exactly what they want. They want something big, shinny and abstract. They want success but they can?t clearly define what success means to them. Most of the people who are able to define it, don?t define it exactly in ways that can be measured. So picture your ideal life don?t settle and think outside the box. What will it take to get there? Be exact and clearly write down your goals.

#3: Make one or more plans and stick with them.

Most goals you want to achieve require that you accomplish a bunch of steps. There?s no other way around it. No one can do this for you. You have to do it. Stick to your plans and do each step one after another. A great way to do this is have coach or mentor

to hold you accommodated. You also can have a partner who has his own goals and both of you can hold each other accommodated.

#4: Maintain your health levels.

Health is an important issue. Being healthy will allow you to think more clearly and make better decisions. It?s also quite hard to summon the necessary stamina required to achieve big without being healthy. Having poor health will keep you away from big successes no matter how clever you are. There are exceptions to this rule but don?t count

on being the exception. Do the smart thing.

#5: Focus your energy wisely.

While you aim at a result, focus on it until you achieve it. Do not try to accomplish a lot of things at once. It?s quite hard to do 1 thing well. It?s almost impossible to do 5 or more things well at once. Break down your big projects into smaller projects and focus on each small project until you get it done completely. After that, go find another project and repeat the process.

#6: Live a principle-based life.

Most people try to solve the same problems they encounter every single day. They do not manage to solve problems completely and not having to deal with them ever again. Having principles will help you avoid certain repeatable bad situations and attract positive ones instead.

#7: Serve others.

The fastest way to achieve your goals is to help others achieve their goals. Serve others, solve their problems take the focus off the need for you to make money and place it on purely helping others to be successful. This is powerful do not over look

Use the above keys to success and skyrocket your results. It?s important to apply the above ideas, do not just read them and forget about them. Note them down on a piece of paper to remember them and think about them all the time. They will make a real difference in your life.

How Has the Life With MS Blog Has Changed Your Life?

Hello everyone,

It?s Rose again. Trevis and Caryn asked me to thank you so much for your good wishes and prayers.

Also, thanks for all of your great suggestions for blogs and discussions. Here?s one from Susan R: How the Life With MS Blog Changed My Life.

Susan says, ?I can tell you, I went from being newly divorced, alone, and scared to having a source of like-minded bloggers who understood me. It was cyber-friendship but it has meant a lot. I found myself on disabilty, a woman in her fifties and living with a chronic disease that didn?t play nice. I can tell you many names like Rusty, MonjaMonja, two other Susans, Billyx3, Widawn, Debbie from Naperville, Glenn and Shirley - the list goes on. The point is, when I found myself alone in a one-bedroom apartment, I started reading the blogs and felt a kinship with everyone. Well, good luck and good wishes to Trevis and Caryn.?

How about you? Has the blogged changed your life? Let us know in the comments.

Don?t forget that you can also follow Trevis via his Life With MS Facebook page, on Twitter, and his new group on MS Connection.org. Check out his bi-monthly blog for the UK and look for his new monthly blog for the National MS Society. And finally, don?t forget to check out TrevisLGleason.com.

Conversation Starters Enable Relationships To Blossom | The Board ...

By Rachel Hill

Relationships are important and in order to build them well one has to use great communication skills. This is particularly true with friends and families, but it sometimes takes resorting to using conversation starters in order to engage in this skill. It is impossible to build deep relationships without effective communication. Talking with those people we know and love helps us learn as much as possible about them and they also learn more about us.

Using conversation starters with family and friends gives us the chance to get involved more in their lives as well as their activities. Great communication skills reinforce the bonds that have already grown, and deepen the relationship. They are particularly beneficial for parents and their children as well as for spouses.

In lots of families, dinner time becomes the best opportunity for parents to demonstrate great communication skills. They understand what using good conversation starters can do for them and their children. Even though dialogue at the dinner table can be a bit more difficult for some families, it is crucial for learning about the daily lives of each family member which reinforce strong family ties.

This can mean the family and its members are engaged fully through the use of engaging questions followed up with listening to what the other person has to say. For a young child good conversation starters may be asking them to teach you something new they learned that day. You never know what you will learn when your interaction is good enough.

Most children are more than happy to talk when they are asked to show what they know. Good ways of engaging with your children that honor their intelligence show great communication skills that can be passed along. However, it is not just the questions that mean the most. It is listening and showing interest in the child?s life that generates the best discussions with your children.

Most families have older aunts and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers who would love to engage their family in cosy t?te-?-t?tes. Good approaches for these older individuals often include asking them to describe what their life was like as a child. Great communication skills also involve listening to their stories about what it was like before you were born and give you a look into the past that you were not expecting.

Using well thought through conversation starters with friends can be as easy as it is with family. Although, it will involve different types of questions. Since we usually know the members of our family in a more intimate way, the approach here will not be with as much familiarity. Instead, your interactions will be targeted at getting to know them better.

Since we already know the people we are building relationships with (that is, friends and family), the best place to start will be with the knowledge we have of them. Sometimes the conversations starters we choose to use will be ignored by the person we want to get to know better, but that is no reason to give up. Just choose something else to talk about. Great communication skills will help you to build the relationships you are after, and you will be glad you did not give up.

With this in mind, isn?t it time for you to go out and demonstrate your great communication skills? All you need are a few conversation starters and you are all set

Once-powerful Russia far behind in gold medal race

LONDON (AP) ? After a miserable first week in the gold medal stakes, traditional powerhouse Russia is showing signs of a revival ? though not enough to avoid its lowest Olympic finish in 60 years.

While some of Russia's strongest events are still to come, the team is set to wind up outside the top three in golds for the first time since the Soviet Union began competing at the games in 1952.

It's a worrying sign for a country that will host the next Olympics, the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, and follows Russia's worst-ever performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

"Sure, we would like to have more gold medals," Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov told the RIA Novosti news agency. "But this is sports, and in many sport events we just lack a bit of luck and good fortune."

After lagging in 10th for total gold medals won in London behind even North Korea and former Soviet republic Kazakhstan, Russia started to come to life Monday, picking up three gold medals to move into a tie for sixth place with Italy with seven.

China and the United States are 1-2 in golds with 31 and 29, respectively, and host Britain third with 18.

Despite the shortage of gold, the Russians have been racking up other medals ? 17 silver and 18 bronze for an overall count of 42. They have moved two ahead of Britain into third place in total medals.

Russia's recent decline has coincided with China's rise as an Olympic superpower and continued dominance by the United States.

The Russian daily Sports Express said in a front page commentary Monday that Russian sports was "frozen" between the Chinese and American systems. It blamed a shortage of state funding and lack of oversight and control over national sports federations.

"It's very far from China, where the watchful Communist Party is eyeing the selection process starting from the kindergarten stage, builds giant sports arenas and finances powerful medical research ? and harshly demands results," the paper said. "We must admit that we stand even further from the American model, and the distance keeps growing. Because it would be deadly if we end state involvement in sports as they did. Sports industries that will feed themselves are simply absent in our country."

There's room for Russia to bring home plenty more in the final days of the games, which end Sunday. Russia has good medal chances in wrestling, synchronized swimming, gymnastics and boxing, among others.

"Historically, we win 80 percent of our gold medals in the last five days," Mikhail Kusnirovich, deputy head of the Russian team, said. "If we finish with 20 gold medals, it would be great."

Barring an amazing set of circumstances, Russia will not be able to catch Team GB in the gold medal race. The hosts, who already have 11 more gold that Russia, have strong contenders ahead in track cycling, boxing, equestrian, sailing and track and field.

Russia finished third in both medal counts at the past two summer Olympics and had been widely predicted to do the same in London.

Before that, the Soviet Union or Russia had always been first or second going back to the 1952 Games in Helsinki.

Monday's competition lifted Russia's mood when gymnast Aliya Mustafina took gold in the uneven bars.

"Here it is, the long-awaited gold in gymnastics! I congratulate Aliya, and all the team and the gymnastics federation from the bottom of my heart!" Mutko said, according to the ITAR-Tass agency.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev also sent congratulations, saying that her "great achievement has brought a great joy to our fans and proven to the world that Russia holds an honorable place among the leaders in gymnastics."

A few hours later, Alan Khugaev won a gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling and Yuliya Zaripova captured the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hopes for a fourth gold in one day evaporated when Russian superstar Yelena Isinbayeva managed only 4.70 meters (15 feet, 7 inches) in the pole vault, with the gold going to Jennifer Suhr of the United States.

Whatever happens the rest of the week, the pressure will be even greater on Russian athletes to perform in Sochi. The host nation wants no repeat of the debacle of Vancouver on its own turf.

In Canada, Russia won only 15 medals and finished 11th in the table. The disastrous results led to the ouster of four key executives in the nation's Olympic program.

"It's better we lost in Vancouver than in Sochi," Kusnirovich said. "Vancouver gave us a chance to improve and be much more successful in Sochi. Home games are very important. We need to have the mentality of winners."

Medals in Sochi will be a matter of national pride for Russia and President Vladimir Putin, who is directly involving in overseeing preparations for the games.

The Russians are now working on their own version of Canada's "Own the Podium" program, a $117-million initiative that resulted in 14 golds for the Canadians ? more than any country at a Winter Games. The Canadian project doled out funds ? from the federal government, corporate sponsors and elsewhere ? to support medal contenders with state-of-the-art coaching, training and psychological help, as well as tips from a sports research program called Top Secret.

Russia's strategy includes turning to foreign coaches.

"We must attract foreigners whenever it's possible, and there is no reason to be ashamed of that," Zhukov said. "If our own coaches are the best, we must call them. If our coaches have moved to other countries and keep on raising champions there, then we must spend maximum efforts to get them back."

Kusnirovich is also involved in bolstering Russia's sports programs ahead of 2014. As chairman of Bosco, a company which supplies outfits for the Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish teams in London, he will be investing in Russian winter sports federations to prepare them for the games.

"I hope this will create the right atmosphere in Russia," he said. "Our athletes are not just machines that win medals. Yes, we need a winners mentality. But if somebody loses, it's not the end of life."

Why does NASA's Mars rover have a laser beam attached to its head? ( video)

The Curiosity Mars rover, scheduled to land on Mars on Sunday night, comes with a laser mounted to its head. Why?

When NASA?s newest rover arrives on Mars Sunday night (Aug. 5), it will be carrying a host of state-of-the-art instruments, including the head-mounted, rock-zapping laser called ChemCam.

The 1-ton Curiosity rover aims to determine if its landing site, the 96-mile-wide (154 kilometers) Gale Crater, can or ever could support microbial life. ChemCam will play a vital role in this quest by allowing the rolling robot to study the composition of rocks from afar.

Mounted to Curiosity?s "head" just above its camera "eyes," ChemCam combines a powerful laser with a telescope and spectrometer that can analyze the light emitted by zapped materials, thereby determining the chemistry of Mars rocks with unprecedented precision.

Using technology created at the U.S. Department of Energy's Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, ChemCam will focus a beam of infrared light onto a target from its French-built laser, vaporizing it with over a million watts of energy from up to 23 feet (7 meters) away. [Curiosity Armed with Laser, Cameras (Infographic)]

ChemCam?s telescope will observe the process, while its spectrometer ? which is sensitive to light from every element on the periodic table ? will analyze emissions from the resulting plasma, telling scientists what lies within.

"ChemCam is designed to look for lighter elements such as carbon, nitrogen and oxygen, all of which are crucial for life," said Los Alamos' Roger Wiens, ChemCam principal investigator. "The system can provide immediate, unambiguous detection of water from frost or other sources on the surface, as well as carbon ? a basic building block of life as well as a possible byproduct of life. This makes the ChemCam a vital component of Curiosity?s mission."

Because ChemCam uses a laser, Curiosity can examine many targets quickly, without having to drive right up to them. Even sitting still, the rover will be able to take up to a dozen measurements a day, scientists have said. And the dustiest rocks shouldn't pose much of a problem for ChemCam, which can clear away loose surface material with a zap or two.

In addition to searching for the building blocks of life hidden inside rocks, ChemCam will serve as a ?scout for future explorers by helping identify the potential toxicity of Martian soil and dust.

If astronauts ever land on Mars, they're going to get dusty in the process ? possibly even more so than they did on the moon. It?s important to know if Mars? dust contains anything dangerous like lead or arsenic, researchers say.

ChemCam?s laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technology has been used on Earth for environmental monitoring, seafloor studies and cancer detection. But Curiosity will be taking it to new heights by deploying the technology on the surface of another planet.
