It is easier to stabilize blood sugar to have a meal with heavy flavor than a meal with light taste. When the blood glucose was maintained in a stable state, the calorie will continue to burn rather than turning into fat stored in the body. Besides, it will not cause a sense of hunger.

6. Be smart to choose snacks.
Snacks can be divided into 10 categories, respectively, sweets, meats, seafoods, eggs, cereals, beans and legume products, vegetables, fruits, milk and dairy products, nuts, potatoes, beverages and cold drinks. Each category of snacks can be divided into 3 grades according to their level. People can select what to eat and how much to eat according to its divisions.

A. Those low-fat, low-salt and low-sugar foods or beverages can be eaten regularly, such as fresh fruits and nuts without salt processing: cucumber, tomato, peanuts, nuts, and pistachios.
B. Those foods or drinks with relatively rich nutrient content but containing moderate fat, sugar, and salt can be eaten properly, such as beef, and black chocolate.
C. It is advised to keep off those foods or beverages containing or being added large amount of fat, sugar, and salt. They will generate too much energy. Swype Beta 1.3 released, brings dictionary backup, 'hotwords' and more

Android Central

The latest beta of the Swype keyboard is out, and available to download from the Swype Beta website.

The popular third-party keyboard from Nuance Communications packs a number of new updates.

  • Dictionary backup & sync: Users’ personal dictionaries and word additions can be synced across mobile devices.
  • Three new tablet keyboard layouts: The original, a small and moveable one, and a split keyboard.
  • New themes.
  • Enhancements to the Chinese keyboard, and a new flick keyboard for the Japanese language. Language prediction has been updated for foreign languages, too.

And the last one is my favorite.

According to the official press release, the new keyboard could even update you with all those crazy things the kids are saying these days. Swype users can opt-in to receive new words so they can be up to date with “the newest ‘hotwords’, like ‘Gangnam Style’.”

That’s right, the K-pop revolution is taking over, and your keyboard is next.

Update: According to the Swype forums, the beta is broken on the Galaxy Nexus, with 4.1.2. Several users are complaining that upon selecting the Swype keyboard, it automatically closes and is replaced with the stock Android keyboard. (Thanks Jon!)

My conversations with Malala Yousafzai, the girl who stood up to the Taliban ( video)

Pakistani journalist Owais Tohid recalls his conversations with Malala Yousafzai, the outspoken 14-year-old girl whose shooting by the Taliban has outraged the world.

"Which one of you is Malala? Speak up, otherwise I will shoot you all," a hooded, bearded Taliban militant asked a bus full of schoolgirls on their way home earlier this week. "She is propagating against the soldiers of Allah, the Taliban. She must be punished," the Taliban militant shouted louder. Then, recognizing her, he shot her at a point blank range.

Travis Brecher reports.

Malala Yousafzai gained fame when it came out that she was the girl who was highly critical of the Taliban's ban on girls' education in the Swat valley, and blogging about her views and about the atrocities of Islamic militias controlling the valley from 2007-2009. The BBC blog, which was written in Urdu under a pen name, was nominated for several awards.?

"I wanted to scream, shout and tell the whole world what we were going through. But it was not possible. The Taliban would have killed me, my father, my whole family. I would have died without leaving any mark. So I chose to write with a different name. And it worked, as my valley has been freed," she told me when I invited her for an interview for the TV station I am heading now, ARY News.?

Doctors treating Malala now say bullets have been removed from her head and neck, but her condition is still critical. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have claimed responsibility for the attack and have a $100,000 government bounty against them. ?

Malala's friend, Shazia, who was also injured that day, recounted the event to me as her eyes filled with tears.

"They stopped our school van. They were riding on a bike. The masked man kept pointing guns at us and the other was shouting ?where is Malala?!? I froze with a flashback to the old dark days: I remembered the headless bodies, slaughtering of rivals ? merely on dissent or slightest doubt of spying ?the grotesque violence."

Just a few moments before, she said, the girls had been singing a traditional Pashtun folk song on their way back from school, its lyrics professing to sacrifice life for motherland, the beautiful valley of Swat.

"With a drop of my sweetheart's blood, Shed to defend the motherland, I will put a beauty spot on my forehead, Such would put to shame the rose in the garden," they sang. The song was made famous by Malala?s namesake, Malalai of Maiwand. The 19th century national folk hero fought against the British troops in the Second Anglo-Afghan War.

What's in a name?

The first time I met Malala, a couple of years ago, I asked her what her name signified. She answered:?"Probably, a hero like the Afghan heroine Malalai [of Maiwand] or Malalai Joya. I want to be a social activist and an honest politician like her," she said, smiling. Ms. Joya, a 30-something activist, politician, and writer who was bitterly critical of both the Taliban and the Karzai regime, was at one point dubbed the bravest woman of Afghanistan.?

(AP Photo/Geert Vanden Wijngaert)

(AP) ? European leaders were drawing battle lines Thursday as they headed for a summit in Brussels, with France pushing back against Germany's call for a new EU czar with wide powers to veto countries' budgets.

In an address to Parliament ahead of the meeting, German Chancellor Angela Merkel endorsed a proposal for the EU's monetary affairs commissioner to become an enforcer of the bloc's budget rules ? including the power to refuse member countries' proposed budgets and send them back for changes.

Germany hopes that having a "budget czar" ? a move that's been bandied about for months ? will keep governments from overspending and needing new, expensive bailouts. But some countries, like France, are wary of handing control over their finances to unelected bureaucrats in a foreign capital.

"I am astonished that, no sooner does someone make a progressive proposal ... the cry immediately comes that this won't work, Germany is isolated, we can't do it," Merkel said. She insisted Germany would continue to push for the proposal.

President Francois Hollande of France ? increasingly the counterpoint to Germany's weight in the EU ? brushed off the suggestion as simply not on the table at this summit.

"The only decision that we have to take, to confirm, is putting in place a banking union by the end of the year," he said. "The first step is a banking supervisor."

Hollande wants the bank supervisor in place because leaders have agreed that, once there is proper supervision, struggling financial institutions will be able to tap Europe's bailout fund directly. That would be a huge relief to countries like Spain, which are facing the prospect of taking on enormous debts ? and worrying markets in the process ? in order to bail out their banks.

Or at least, it seemed European leaders had agreed to that in June. Since then, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland have muddied the waters and put the brakes on any decision about a banking union.

That could mean that few concrete decisions will emerge from meetings of the 27 national leaders in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.

Merkel again insisted Thursday that "quality must come before speed" in setting up the bank supervisor.

"There are a lot of very complicated legal questions, and I am not making the issue more difficult than it actually is," Merkel said.

With unemployment skyrocketing and growth grinding to a halt around the continent, the back-and-forth is beginning to frustrate some European officials. Jose Manuel Barroso, who is president of the EU's executive arm, the European Commission, criticized the heel-dragging ahead of the meeting.

"There is not all over Europe the same sense of urgency," said Barroso.

With no relief in sight for beleaguered Spain, the question of whether it will ask for a bailout itself will likely be discussed. The government in Madrid said this week that it would decide in the coming weeks ? although it is still hoping it can avoid asking for any kind of aid. Such requests represent a blow to a country's pride, and the governments that ask for them can get thrown out of office.

But the political pressure on Spain is great because should investors become convinced that Madrid will not request aid, they may once again sell off the country's bonds, causing its borrowing rates to rise. If Spain were to be locked out of bond markets because of excessively high rates, the 17 countries that make up the eurozone could scarcely afford to bail it out.

"It would be helpful ... if Spain asked for ESM (European bailout fund) aid," said Herman Van Rompuy, who is president of the European Council, the body composed of the leaders of all the EU countries. "But it is up to Spain to make up its mind."

Leaders could also discuss Greece, where rioters were pelting police with Molotov cocktails and chunks of marble on Thursday to protest the stringent budget cuts the country has had to implement in order to secure its rescue loans.

Greece's bailout creditors ? the EU, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank ? have been engaged in tough negotiations in recent weeks over more budget cuts. The troika, as the group of creditors, has said it won't release the next batch of loans until more savings are made. Without those loans, Greece will default and probably be forced to leave the eurozone.

Budget cuts have been blamed for sinking many countries in Europe into recession and have unleashed protests around the continent.

Van Rompuy said countries were starting to see the first positive effects of austerity, with deficit levels down and borrowing costs falling.

"The first results are encouraging, but we are still suffering a lot," he said. He was referring to 25 million jobless in the EU and the bloc's "very modest growth prospects."

Long-term proposals for overhauling the EU also appear likely to be key topics of debate in Brussels, including creating a European budget that could be used to support countries going through deep recessions ? as Spain and Greece are now. That idea appeared in a report Van Rompuy put together for the summit, but has met with some stiff opposition.

Weight Lifting Equipment: What are the essentials for ... - Health Guide

With so many health and fitness benefits available to people who do resistance exercise on a regular basis, it?s no wonder that home weight lifting equipment is in high demand. From home gyms and weight lifting benches to used weight lifting equipment and high end Hammer Strength machines, people are stocking up and filling their home gyms with some pretty serious iron. However, if you?re just getting started with setting up a home gym, it?s best to get the essential weight lifting equipment before you go all out.

But what weight lifting equipment is essential? There are so many different home gyms, weight sets and weight lifting accessories avaialble these days that it can often be difficult to filter down to the foundational equipment that you need to perform high energy, muscle building exercises at home. Luckily, we?ve put together a list to help you get the essential weight lifting equipment for your home gym.

Here are the equipment and weight lifting accessories that should be stocked in every home gym area:

* Free Weights. The core weight lifting equipment is, of course, weights. It?s good to start off with at least two hundred pounds of free weights. Even if you don?t plan on lifting seriously heavy weights, a good home gym should still have plenty of dumbbells and weight plates on hand, so you can quickly move from one exercise to another. And with the availability of adjustable dumbbells, you don?t have to purchase a whole rack of weights in order to do the best muscle building exercises.

* Weight Lifting Gloves. People often forget how much wear and tear their hands get from a hard weight lifting workout. You want to keep your hands protected from scratches, calluses and other injuries that can occur while you lift weights. Make sure that you purchase some high quality weight lifting glove as you stock up on weight lifting equipment for your home gym.

* A Bench or Home Gym Machine. You can choose to get a sturdy bench or upgrade a bit to get a full fledged home gym machine. If you do get a machine, these pieces of weight lifting equipment often have full weight stacks attached, so you can skip on some of the free weights that we mentioned earlier.

* A Pull Up Bar or Pull Up Rack. Pull ups are some of the best strength building exercises you can do. Invest in either a chin up bar that fits over your door or a pull up rack/cage. One of these pieces of weight lifting equipment allow you to do other exercises, like hanging leg raises, so they really do prove to be useful equipment for any home gym.

If you purchase just the essential weight lifting equipment listed above, you?ll have everything you need to perform some serious strength workouts at home. After a few weeks to a few months, you should see some massive improvements to your overall physique and strength levels.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) ? Cambodians mourning the late King Norodom Sihanouk carried flowers and burning incense to the Royal Palace on Wednesday to pray before his body arrives home from China.

More than 1,000 people, some with tears in their eyes, gathered in hot weather, many of them kneeling before a portrait of the late monarch.

"I needed to come here today, to pray and see the body of the king because he dies only one time, not twice," said Khy Sokhan, a 73-year-old woman in a wheelchair outside the palace.

In Beijing late Wednesday morning, traffic authorities cleared several roads and a highway as a bus decorated with yellow flowers and apparently carrying Sihanou's body traveled to the airport with a few dozen black cars and minibuses.

Chinese state television carried live coverage of the procession while Chinese flags at Tiananmen Square and other key locations in the capital flew at half-staff. China's Foreign Ministry said State Councillor Dai Bingguo was escorting Sihanouk's body to Cambodia.

Sinahouk's successor, King Norodom Sihamoni, and the queen mother were returning as well.

Cambodians were gathering along the road to Phnom Penh International Airport before the arrival Wednesday afternoon. As many as 100,000 people are expected to line the route to the palace, where Sihanouk's body will lay in state for three months. After that time, it will be cremated according to Buddhist ritual.

Sihanouk had been the last surviving Southeast Asian leader who pioneered his nation through postwar independence. But Cambodia became enmeshed in the conflict in neighboring Vietnam, leading to his first fall from power and culminating in the murderous rule of the communist Khmer Rouge in the late 1970s, during which about 1.7 million of his countrymen perished.

After the Khmer Rouge were ousted, Sihanouk regained the throne in 1993. His influence waned as Prime Minister Hun Sen grew in prominence, and Sihanouk abdicated in 2004.

The former monarch spent much of the rest of his life in China. He died Monday at age 89 after suffering a heart attack.

Sling Media Slingbox 500

Not feeling the cord-cutting craze? From live sports and 24-hour news to a vast array of premium channels, most Americans are staying with cable or satellite TV for now. The problem is, aside from the lack of ? la carte channel options, TV providers also make it exceptionally difficult to watch the programming you pay for from computers and mobile devices. Enter the venerable Slingbox, which since 2005 has made it easy to "place-shift" live TV and recorded DVR content, letting you watch it on any device over the Internet when you're away from home.

Now, after a four-year hiatus, Sling Media is back with the Slingbox 500 ($299.99 direct), its first consumer product since the Slingbox Pro-HD and the somewhat misguided SlingCatcher. With the 500, the Slingbox finally includes features many fans have been clamoring for, such as full 1080p streaming and Wi-Fi support. In an age of direct Internet streaming services, parts of the way the Slingbox 500 works are beginning to feel quite dated. But if you want to get the most out of your cable or satellite TV subscription, the Slingbox 500 remains a great way to stream live TV and recorded DVR content to any of your computers or mobile devices, at home or on the go.?

Design, Connections, and Setup
With its twisted design, the Slingbox 500 looks kind of like an inspired piece of modern art. It's made entirely of matte black plastic with a textured finish that feels durable and scratch resistant.?As a coworker commented, it's no longer flat on top, so people won't be putting stuff on top and watching their Slingboxes overheat, which used to happen with the older models.

Sling Media Slingbox 500

In the package, you get lots of goodies. Aside from the Slingbox itself, there's a small remote control, an AC adapter, an HDMI cable, component and composite video cables, a pair of stereo RCA audio cables, an Ethernet cable, and a printed instruction manual.?The HDMI port seems like an exciting addition at first, but thanks to encryption issues from the TV providers, it only passes through regular TV and basic cable channels like USA HD. To get around this problem, Sling Media recommends a simultaneous HDMI and component audio and video cable setup; I ended up testing with the component connection.

The Slingbox 500 also includes an internal IR blaster for controlling your cable-company-issued set-top box. This means you don't have to fiddle with the little plastic external one on a wire, as you did with older models. Sling Media says the blaster is strong enough to bounce off the walls and hit the sensor on the set-top box. If that doesn't work in your setup, the company still includes the old IR blaster on a wire in case you need it.

I tested the Slingbox 500 with a Dish Network Hopper DVR and a Samsung HDTV. From the back of the Dish Hopper, I ran both HDMI and the five component A/V cables from the output jacks to the inputs on the Slingbox 500. Then out from the Slingbox 500, I connected the existing HDMI cable (from the Dish Hopper) to the back of the TV. The Slingbox 500 took about two minutes to boot for the first time; it installed a software update during this time, which I assume was already on the Slingbox, because I hadn't yet connected it to a network.

SlingPlayer (Web)

You can connect to 802.11b/g/n networks on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz channel. I added the Slingbox 500 to our test WPA2-encrypted 5GHz network without issue, and then picked up the new remote to control the Slingbox's new TV interface. After inputting my location and zip code, the unit scanned the connected inputs and asked about our service provider, for which I selected Dish New York. It already had the Dish Hopper in its set-top box database and loaded the appropriate remote control layout. I tested the programmed remote buttons as directed, and everything worked properly from the Slingbox remote. I had no problem bringing up the menu and channel guide, switching channels, and powering the Hopper off or on?and that was without using the external blaster cable, and while standing in front of both devices.

The bundled Slingbox 500 remote is fairly small.??It's made entirely of black plastic and is very light, but doesn't feel too flimsy.?It includes a Home button at the top, three function keys, an oversize five-way control pad, Play/Pause, Stop, and seek controls, and a numeric keypad. The rubber buttons are easy to press, although they're not backlit.

Performance
As with any streaming 1080p device, you'll want to make sure your home network is in tip top shape. As a general rule, 802.11n is better than 802.11g, and 5GHz is better than 2.4GHz. (Read How to Set Up a Wireless Router for quick tips on improving your network's speed and range.)

Slingboxes have always excelled at optimizing the quality of video against available network bandwidth. Even over Wi-Fi, the Slingbox 500 is no exception. I watched?NCIS?in HD and saw a clear, crisp picture, both over 720p and 1080p, on my ThinkPad's Chrome Web browser, with perfectly synced audio at all times. I also had little trouble changing channels and otherwise navigating the Dish Hopper's program guide.
